How to find accommodation: practical advice
- Apply for on-campus residence at the same time as your academic application, not after you're accepted. Places fill before results are even released.
- Budget realistically. Off-campus rent in Windhoek typically runs higher than campus residence, and you'll usually pay a deposit plus the first month upfront.
- Check what's included: water, electricity, Wi-Fi and furniture are often billed separately. Ask specifically.
- Visit before paying. If you're from out of town, ask a relative, a current student, or someone from the UA WhatsApp community to view it for you.
- Get it in writing. A signed lease protects you. Verbal agreements leave you with nothing if there's a dispute.
- Ask current residents. They will tell you about the water pressure, Wi-Fi and noise far more honestly than any listing will.
